Empowering People • Protecting Wildlife • Conserving Wilderness
At Avadan Safaris, we believe that travel should leave a positive impact — for the traveler, for local communities, for wildlife, and for the planet. Our Responsible Travel Policy outlines how we operate in a way that protects the environment, uplifts local livelihoods, and preserves Africa’s natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
Core Principles
We are guided by five pillars of responsible travel:
- Conservation of Nature and Wildlife
- Respect for Local Cultures and Traditions
- Community Empowerment and Economic Inclusion
- Climate-Conscious Travel Operations
- Ethical Partnerships and Fair Business Practices
- Environmental Conservation & Wildlife Protection
We support conservation areas, national parks, and community conservancies through entry fees and conservation levies.
We prioritize game drives and experiences that do not disrupt wildlife behaviour or natural habitats.
We discourage off-road driving except in permitted conservancies.
We provide guests with guidance on minimizing waste, water usage, and environmental impact during their safari.
We partner with eco-certified camps, lodges, and suppliers who follow sustainable energy, water, and waste practices.
We actively support anti-poaching awareness and rhino and elephant conservation campaigns.
Cultural Sensitivity & Local Respect
We educate travelers about local customs, traditions, languages, and etiquette before and during the safari.
We encourage authentic, respectful cultural visits that benefit local communities (e.g., Maasai or Samburu village visits hosted by the communities themselves).
We discourage any activities that exploit people, wildlife, or cultural assets for entertainment or profit.
We prioritize experiences that preserve intangible cultural heritage — such as traditional storytelling, music, and food — led by local custodians.
Community Empowerment & Economic Inclusion
We work with locally owned accommodations, guides, artisans, and transport providers whenever possible.
We ensure fair wages and working conditions for all Avadan Safaris staff and contracted teams.
We support female- and youth-led tourism businesses in our supply chain.
We promote community-based tourism projects that provide income while protecting heritage (e.g., beadwork cooperatives, school visits, reforestation programs).
Climate-Aware Safari Practices
We reduce unnecessary long vehicle transfers by encouraging fly-in safaris or optimized itineraries.
We avoid single-use plastics in all Avadan Safaris welcome packs and safari setups.
We use energy-efficient, fuel-conscious 4×4 safari vehicles and maintain them regularly.
We are working toward making our operations 100% paperless with digital itineraries, vouchers, and e-signatures.
Ethical Partnerships & Transparent Business Practices
We are selective about the camps, airlines, and ground handlers we partner with — ensuring they comply with legal, ethical, and environmental standards.
We maintain full transparency in our pricing, commissions, and operational fees.
We ensure our marketing portrays destinations, wildlife, and communities authentically and respectfully — avoiding stereotypes and unrealistic expectations.
We continually evaluate our environmental and social impact and welcome feedback from our travelers and partners to improve.
Guest Responsibilities
We encourage all guests traveling with Avadan Safaris to:
- Follow wildlife viewing rules and never feed or touch animals.
- Ask permission before photographing local people.
- Dress modestly and respectfully in villages and towns.
- Respect camp/lodge rules regarding electricity, water use, and conservation measures.
- Leave only footprints, take only memories — and never remove natural objects from the environment.
- Choose locally made products and fair-trade items when shopping for souvenirs.
- Use refillable water bottles and eco-toiletries.
Our Commitment
Responsible travel is not just a choice — it’s our core responsibility as stewards of Africa’s wild places and cultural treasures. Through every safari we design, every guest we host, and every community we work with, Avadan Safaris is committed to making travel a force for good.
